DyvoGra is a social publishing project that creates books and toys for speech and communication development. Since 2015 we adapt books with pictograms of the international symbol system The Picture Communication Symbols © 1981-2018 by Tobii Dynavox company. Our editions are in Ukrainian, Russian and English.
Books adapted with pictograms are designed for children with special educational needs, speech impairment, autism spectrum disorder, and are intended for children who just learn to read.
Children with ASD and other similar disorders require an adapted material to understand stories and stimulate speech.
Pictograms help them to understand the story and combine every concept with a certain word.
“Zoo” it is a book with pictograms that tells how to behave in public places: in zoo, cafe, playground, etc. It helps to learn a correct pronunciation of sounds, develops speech and communication skills. Adapted text makes reading accessible to children who have difficulties in learning letters or understanding a text.
“Mary’s Got Sick” it’s a book with pictograms that tells about everyday life of a girl Mary, helps to remember how to behave in public places – at school, in store, at doctor’s appointment, as well as develops speech and communication skills. Adapted text makes reading accessible to children who have difficulties in learning letters or understanding the text.
You can work with each part of the book separately:
• study the objects depicted in the forerunner, list them, look for similar ones;
• look at illustrations, define different objects of the same species and their number;
• search and combine pictograms with different elements of the picture to the page;
• read the text, understand the emotions of the heroes, discuss social norms of behavior, and so on.
In order to facilitate readers understanding of the text questions and answers to them in the form of pictograms are published after the story.
In the end, there are detailed tips for reading books with pictograms.
In “DyvoGra” publishing project we do not only books, but also therapeutic games, cards and posters that provide children’s development. Also we invent toys, including for children with special needs. Please see our PROJECTSSupport the project
